Bread and Butter Pudding

Bread and Butter Pudding

8 slices white bread
2oz/50g butter
4 tablespoons marmalade or jam
½ pint/300ml milk
½ pint/300ml cream
3 eggs
2oz/50g caster sugar
2oz/50g brown sugar
dried fruit (optional)

Spread the slices of bread with butter and marmalade. Arrange them in layers in an  ovenproof pie dish with the dried fruit.

Mix the eggs, milk, cream and caster sugar  together in a jug and whisk until smooth. Pour over the bread and sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake in a preheated oven at 200oC  for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.  

Serve warm with a little extra cream.
