Carol and Randall O'Connor and their Cara Insert and Oisin stove
Carol and Randall O'Connor from Meath have a Cara Insert and Oisin stove in their home "They have made such a difference to our home heating."
Why did they choose a Stanley stove? "Stanley was a name that we knew. Both of us grew up with a Stanley Range Cooker in the home and it never let us down. For us it's a lifetime investment, something we wouldn't be doing again. We looked at the range of models out there and if something went wrong with the cheaper stoves down the line we might not be able to get spare parts."
What do they love about their Stanley stoves? "They have made such a difference in our home heating. Our gas bills have gone down considerably. We don't need the central heating on downstairs at all. We often open the doors to our kitchen and living room and the heat goes around the house. When we got the Cara Insert in first, we noticed how cold the other rooms were when we walked out of the living room. This was the main reason for getting the Oisin stove in the kitchen area."
So have you noticed a change in your home heating bills? " A couple of years ago Board Gais wanted us to go on a plan which was €62 a month and they phoned us last year to reduce the direct debit amount to €42 a month. Our gas bills used to be around €300 to €400 in the height of winter. Our last gas bill for January/February - Randall takes it out and shows it to me - was €136. We are in credit with Bord Gais."
"Obviously we still have to pay for the stove fuel. We use around 12 bags of coal in the year and 20 bales of briquettes and that heats the two stoves for the year. At the weekends when we are off we would have the stoves lighting all day. The heat meets in the hall and goes upstairs."
When prompted about their favourite moment "We find that we are getting more and more visitors to our home. Love when we have the family around. People get a warm welcome when we open the front door. The stoves create a homely atmosphere and you just want to stay in the room"
