Stanley says energy efficiency no longer an option

Energy Efficiency no longer an option – it’s the Law

Waterford Stanley, Irish indigenous manufacturer says they’ve seen a marked swing back to their cast-iron stoves, with particular emphasis on enamel; that are cleaner, greener and far more efficient than open fires – thus improving the energy rating of your house and boosting the value of your home.

Energy efficiency and renewable energy are no longer the realm of those with an eco-passion it’s now the law. From January 1st 2009 all buildings, whether new or second hand will require a building energy rating if they are to be sold or rented. Energy efficient heating sources are therefore hot topics. Installing a stove is a simple yet effective way of increasing your home's  energy rating.

Independent research shows stoves are three times more efficient than open fires. While anything up to 70 per cent of heat from an open fire goes straight up the chimney, Stanley stoves retain as much as 70 per cent heat in the home.

Waterford Stanley Technical Director, Michael Stack, said while stoves are a great focal point and provide a powerful, alluring, attractive flame; most home-owners investing in stoves are doing so for environmental reasons. Not only are they more efficient than most other heat sources, they also boost a home’s BER (Building Energy Rating).

Mr Stack continues, “Consumers in Ireland are now beginning to recognise the value of burning fuel efficiently. Under the dwelling energy assessment procedure set down by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI)  open fires have an efficiency of 30% while stoves have an efficiency of 60%. The efficiency of Stanley stoves which have been third party tested yield efficiencies up to 79%.

“Using high efficiency Stanley Stove improves the overall BER (Building Energy Rating) of a home, increasing its value under the new energy rating system now compulsory for all new home builds. The annual saving on the fuel bill is dependent on the end user but a fuel saving of up to 60% can be achieved using a Stanley stove while giving a much more comfortable and warmer room,” Mr Stack said.

Agent, Victor Young of Youngs in Kilkenny said while there are imitations on the market, Waterford Stanley stoves are still the leading seller. “We would always recommend Waterford Stanley products to our customers. The brand is synonymous with quality, reliability and efficiency and we know we can stand over everything in the Stanley range we sell.

“Customers know that when they invest in a Stanley Stove, they are getting a top-quality, long-lasting Irish made and designed product with the expert back-up of a team of engineers in the unlikely event of something going wrong. The extended, five year guarantee on  solid fuel  models also offers additional peace of mind.”

While solid fuel stoves are at the core of Stanley’s market, their extensive range of stoves can also be fuelled by gas, oil or electricity. Available in a wide variety of colours – among them black, forest green, blue, or majolica brown, Stanley stoves can be used in virtually any room in the home.

Heat from stoves is also easier to regulate and they burn fuel down to a very fine ash, a by-product which is easily removed, simply by sliding out the fitted ash pan. Stoves are also easier to light than an open fire. As the fire in Stanley stoves is contained in an enclosed combustion chamber, it eliminates the risk of fuel falling out, and sparks emitting into the room or on to carpets or wood floors.

Stove converts say the fuel they burn lasts much longer than coal and that it seems to burn at a higher temperature. And because stoves burn fuels right down to a very fine ash, disposing of the by-product is also less harmful to the environment.

Stoves which feature integrated boilers also double up as secondary heating sources, capable of powering up to ten radiators throughout the typical home.

Waterford Stanley has been producing top quality, cast iron products for over 70 years. Stanley deals with over 150 stockists nation-wide; provide spare parts where and when needed and guarantee that even if the stove you’ve invested in is out of production, they will always have the part you need.

Stove comforts:

  • Stoves are twice as energy efficient as open fires with 60 per cent of heat retained in a room, rather than escaping up the chimney
  • Waterford Stanley stoves have an independent, 79 per cent efficiency rating
  • Customers report a 60 per cent fuel saving over open fires
  • The cast iron body of the stove which has extracted up to 80% of the heat from the fire while the stove was lighting will continue to release heat into the room up to 3 hours after the fire has burned down
  •  Heat is more easily regulated and the fine, powdery ash is easily removed in the ash tray
